June is: Men’s Health Month
May 27, 2024

Men’s Health Month is observed every June to raise awareness about the health issues that affect men disproportionately and to encourage early detection and treatment of diseases.

During this month, various campaigns, events, and initiatives are organised to address the key objectives of Men’s Health to promote healthy lifestyles, educate and make accessible – preventive screenings, and education on men’s health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, heart disease, diabetes and skin cancer.

Men are often taxed with the overarching assumption that they tend to let their health slide outside of a fitness gym.

It’s a crucial time to highlight some of the major issues men experience in far larger numbers than women do, emphasizing the importance of regular check-ups, healthy habits, and open discussions about men’s health concerns. The fact is, men have shorter life expectancies and higher rates of certain diseases compared to women. Raising awareness can help bridge that gap.

Ways to advocate for men’s health personally, or to support a family member:

    1. Raise Awareness: have an open dialogue with your doctor and share any concerns or issues with a loved one for encouragement and moral support will help address all male health disparities.
    2. Encourage Preventive Measures: such as medical screenings and self checking. It’s vital to your self care. Have an annual action plan to ensure that your mind and body are in good shape at any age.
  • Promote Healthy Lifestyles: all human bodies change throughout our lives; it’s essential to understand that food, products and social lifestyle behaviors may be impacting our health much more significantly at various ages. Adopting a healthy lifestyle at an early age, will reduce the early onset of lifestyle related diseases in aging.
